More Than An Employee
As a follower of Christ, you are more than an employee of some organization. You have a calling that has eternal implications. You have a field to work. Your motivations should be different than those who do not know Christ. You are a missionary. Often, in the church, we grow up thinking a missionary only goes overseas to far away places. When we view it biblically, we are all missionaries, regardless of if we ever leave our hometown.
As Christians, we are to live on mission. We understand that Heaven and Hell are real, and that our ultimate goals are not sports, education, or high income. While these things are positive, and needed, they are secondary to the call of the gospel. They must serve a gospel purpose being subordinate to the greater call of Christ. We are to be about the mission of Jesus first. We are missionaries who have a classroom, students, and parents as a mission field. We are missionaries sent to reach the lost at the mill in the stockroom, on the line, or in the yard. We are missionaries who happen to be paid by the government to do a certain task, while building people up, encouraging, and sharing our faith. Stay at home moms who have friends that need to be reached, and children to be raised, taught, and molded into the likeness of Christ. We coach in order to build relationships with parents and players, in hopes of sharing the gospel with them. Wins, losses, and a championship are secondary to this.
When we surrender to Christ as our Lord and Savior, we also accept His mission to seek and share with the lost. Having the great honor of being a part of a cosmic mission that doesn't just change the present, but reaches into eternity. If we have no desire to share our faith, do we have a faith at all? We cannot believe, have the hope and joy of salvation through Christ, hold the answers to eternity, truly love our neighbor, and have no desire to tell others where to find the hope that we possess. We must ask ourselves: Are we living on mission with Christ, or are we just moral people who claim a faith we do not truly possess? Do we see and live out the mission daily to the best of our ability, or do we relegate it to Sundays for the “professionals” and for less than 2% of the time in a seven day week?
